ONLI STUDIOS will be showcasing its upbeat Kwanzaa Happiness Print/Post Card. It is an oversized postcard with the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa printed on the back. The limited edition print-card comes with an envelop for holiday sharing.
It is on sell at the Trading Post gift shop of the DuSable Museum in Chicago.

Turtel Onli "Place Setting" is a framed oils on archival canvas-board, Rhythmistic painting that puts a new upbeat face on Kwanzaa. It shows an African-American young woman enthusiastically setting up an arrangement as part of a Kwanzaa celebration. The symbolism abounds as she is wearing the color indigo, the bowl is a zebra motif, the fruit is the health giving watermelon, along with the balance created by the placement of the two Ashanti Dolls. Serious collectors, curators or lovers of great art can learn more about this and other Rhythmistic paintings by visiting the ONLI STUDIOS web site.

The Black Age of Comics was born of international experiences when Onli was living and working in Paris as a freelance illustrator.  The French celebration of comic books as high art was a welcome emotion to Onli. He went to the offices of Metal Hurlant, and met with Moebius, to see about working there.  Moebius looked at his portfolio and asked, "Can't you make money in America?". Onli took that to mean he should think and plan to grow his own dynamic studio practice beyond the limits of freelancing. This led to the publishing of "NOG: The Protector of the Pyramides", "Future Funk" and the launch of the Black age movement.

Below are samples of illustrations Onli created for publishers in Paris at the time. Circa 1978
Onli always said he went to Paris to "bring it" not to "get it". His style and techniques were in full effect before arriving.

Below is the an illustration Onli created for Miles Davis in 1975 before going to Europe.

The best artists and illustrators are found in the Black Age movement!

Thank you for noticing that when others went fashionably, "Post-Black" and politely, "lack Black" or even politically, "I never refer to my Black self as Black" we stayed inclusive, open, creative, and welcoming to all types of positive folks from all stages, pages, rages and ages. We kept on growing; being as Black as we wanted to be!  And we still luv them all too! Black, White, Brown, Red, Tan, Olive, Yellow, Time- Warped or Martian...... ONLI STUDIOS will be hosting a signing and get to know event for Ms Jun Ogusawara.  Jun O has developed an amazing  tender story of your embrace of the essence of the late Chicago Blues master, Lefty Dizz, as her spiritual God-father.  This vision is expressed in her drawings and writings then later supported by her travels to Chicago to learn more about the legendary Bluesman and the incredible scene to which he was a part.

She first made contact with this Black Master of the Blues when as a young child, her Father showed her a DVD featuring the Rolling Stones in Chicago at the Checkerboard Lounge Blues Club in 1981.  It featured a large jam session which included amazing performances by Lefty Dizz.  CONTACT!

Jun O is a student of lithography. Her style is clean, very illustrative and unique.  Curators, critics and collectors will find her work a rare find.  Students and educators will see in her work possibilities for the expression of personal visions and the potential of the sketch book and a holder of passionate art and storytelling.

Her works were featured at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts last Fall in its group exhibition called, "Comics Code".

May 15th, #3rd Friday Opening.  6pm until 10pm. Free admission.  ONLI STUDIOS is on the 3rd Floor. Suite #3110. Entrance near 3400 South Racine, via the Sculpture Garden.
