The DuSable Museum's Trading Post gift shop will host a signing and discussion featuring Turtel Onli the creator / publisher of NOG, Malcolm-10, Sustah-Girl and more. The Trading Post features one of the few dedicated racks of Black Age graphic novels & comic books in the USA. Time: 2pm to 5pm located at 56th & Cottage Grove in Chicago.

Museum admission required. Great for educators, fans, collectors.

We were greeted by the classical music of two musicians during the opening of the "Creative Cornerstones" exhibition which featured a display of Black Age Art Stars, Afua Richardson, Arie Monroe, Ashley A. Woods, Eric Battle, John Jennings, Corey Greene, Rebekah Younger, Joe Curie, N. Steven Harris, Yaounde' Olu, Turtel Onli, and the late greats Dwayne McDuffie and L.A. Banks.

Hundreds of people flowed through over the weekend event.

We attracted museum founders,

collectors' organizations & city officials.

Fans, collectors, curators and the curious were surprised to encounter the impact & quality of illustrations created by various Black Age Art Stars. Afterwards they purchased books from ONLI STUDIOS. Creative Cornerstones is the title of this group exhibition.
"Black Comix", the book, was prominently displayed as part of the Black Age display.

OPENING RECEPTION THIS WEEKEND: This is the Black Age display in this important annual group art exhibition at the Bridgeport Art Center for 2011's Chicago Artists Month. Also it will feature a screening of the historic DVD "Black Age Central" from the 2010 Black Age of Comics Convention: Featuring creatives like Arie Monroe, John Jennings, Afua Richardson, Corey Greene, Rebeckah Younger, Eric Battle, N. Steven Harris, Turtel Onli and more. The theme this year is to show how visual artists network to form productive communities. The landmark "Black Comix" coffee table resource book and a variety of Black Age graphic novels will also be available for researchers or collectors. Ours is such a growing community.

Turtel will represent the Black Age movement with his Rhythmistic fine art entry to the Rush Philantropic / Bombay-Sapphire national Artist Search contest Oct. 15th at Gallery Guichard. The two local winners will advance to the prestigious Miami Art Basel.

I drove to Atlanta for the 3rd ONYX CON recently to get my Black Age on. It was amazing. Positive! refreshing! Inspiring on all levels as it closed the 2011 Season of the Black Age.

A few of us Black Age Art Stars had work included in the important Afro Futurism & the visual arts exhibition at the Tubman Museum in Macon GA. So Steven harris & I went down to visit.

We were successful in making the transition this year from being a free standing indie-convention to becoming a major component in the DuSable Museum's annual Festival of the Arts. ONLI STUDIOS seriously wants to thank all of the creative professionals, participants, educators, fans, customers, students, store owners & managers, Matt, James, museum staff, Dr. Adams, Ms Hunter and you for understanding , "Indie today: Black Age forever!"

We featured two comic store signings, a bowling party, and a two day exhibition tent at the outdoors festival that played to thousands of folks along with the Black Age Art Star crew went to the all mighty "House Music Picnic" that drew tens of thousands that day.
Faith took her lunch hour with us at the signing at Graham Crackers. Eric introduced his set of hot new limited edition "The Paragon Order" prints, Turtel presented the "NOG NU!!" rebooted book, and Steven, ( partially shown to the right) debutted his new "Brotherhood of the The Fringe" Special Gallery Edition. Black Age Art Stars were in effect!!!
"Super-Fan-Boy" followed Steven & Eric from New York over the years to catch them at the downtown Chicago Graham Crackers comic book super store to get his books autographed durng "Black Age XIV" week end. The night before we checked out a jazz set in China Town at the Lure Dinner/Night Club.
Onli checking out the popular and growing Black Age/ indie section of the super-cool First Aid comic book store. The hitz keep on comin'!!
During the signing at the First Aid comic book store in Hyde Park, Davina took a moment to show Jamilla her new holographic smart-phone.
Steven, Onli, Eric, & Joe were honored to introduce Lauren to the Black Age movement.

Last year, for October's Chicago Artists' Month 2010, during "BLACK AGE XIII" weekend Art Stars N. Steven Harris, Turtel Onli, Arie Monroe, Eric Battle & Afua Richardson went on a stroll to check out an amazing mural that was a tribute to the founder of the city of Chicago, Jean Pointe DuSable, along with visits to the Oriental Museum and the DuSable Museum. In Chicago our Black Age convention typically features a weekend of related events.

This mural was created by Statik Barnes, Max Sinsang & Troy Patterson per the Chicago Public Art Group.

BTW: The DuSable's Trading Post gift shop features a rack of Black Age books all year!!!

BTW: ONLI STUDIOS is planning to produce "BLACK AGE XIV" at the DuSable Museum in Chicago as an open -air event wiht a double-tent during the museum's annual outdoors festival of the arts July 9th & 10th 2011.

ONLI STUDIOS will have a 10" X 20" tent that will feature Eric Battle, N. Steven Harris, Damian Duffy, Lauren White-Jackson, Corey Green, Tim Jackson, Yaounde' Olu while Dr. Kamau Rashied will lead Back To School presentation at the tent dealing with bringing the Black Age into the class room on all levels along with the success of the dedicated spinning rack of Black Age books in the Trading Post, Gift Shop of the internationally renown DuSable Museum of African American History.

Due to limited space there are no registration or vending arrangements for the ONLI STUDIOS' / Black Age section of this event beyond the select invited Masters of the Black Age this year. Everyone is invited to experience the DuSable Museum, its gift shop and the other exciting activites of this weekend.

I met the very talented Lauren at C2E2 during our "Black Comix" book panel organized by Jennings & Duffy and again at this event ONLI STUDIOS presented at the Trinity "mega church" in Chicago per its Artists' Ministry group. I was shocked to learn she is in 7th grade. We hope to feature her at "BLACK AGE XIV". Her Mom suggested she tell me the name she uses to explain her illustration style. She said, "Turtel, these are Japanafrican!"

Sorry to say but the great and very influencial Dwayne McDuffie died this month. While his work will always be around his warm personality and prolific work ethic along with his generous support of the Black Age, from day one, will be missed. Tributes are being planned around the universe.

We just wanted to take a moment to say the world got rocked at "Black Age XIII". A three day weekend that flowed through Little Black Pearl, First Aid Comics Store, The Blackstone Library, Afri-Ware Bookstore & Cultural Center, The DuSable Museum, Liberated Muse, Graham Crackers Comic Book Superstore, Black Age Central/ Hy Pa / University of Chicago near President Obama's backyard, Chicago Artists Month / City of Chicago, and home site convention at Kenwood Academy. We at ONLI STUDIOS are working even harder to take all of this energy to next level. Afri-ware is growing to become the spot all year 'round to collect Black Age products. The second Saturday in February is Black Comic Book Day. Look for an event near you. OK????? We plan to get in where we fit in and then some. Not to mention taking a lot of y'all with us.

Meet Jackie Ormes:Before "Black Age XIII" weekend the DuSable Museum of African American History is planning to present a workshop on the late creative genius and impact of the pioneering syndicated cartoonist from Chicago, Ms Jackie Ormes.

Little Black Pearl is hosting a "Sustahs of the Black Age" exhibition of illustrations and fine art plus signings featuring Afua Richardson, Arie Monroe, Eric Battle, N. Steven Harris, Yaounde Olu, Khadijah Ali-Colemen & the co-author of "BLACK COMIX", John Jennings. Khadijah Ali-Coleman will be reading from Liberated Muse to musical accompaniment by Aki Antonia. Hours: 6pm to 9pm during the monthly Bronzeville Arts District Trolley tour. Free admission.

The Bronzeville Walk of Fame: We will visit this tribute to historic Black folks that at some point were based in the Bronzeville area of Chicago. They include Jack Johnson, and Sam Cooke along with many others.

1pm to 3pm: Professor and co-author John Jennings will put the exclamation mark to close out the weekend with a signing of "Black Comix" and "The Hole" at the DuSable Museum which will be presenting its book rack featuring Black Age products for fans, students, families, collectors, and educators.

"The Fringe" is an exciting indie concept created by N. Steven Harris. He is shown signing his valuable works at the first ONYX CON in Atlanta this past August and will be doing the same for fans and collectors Oct. 10th 2009 at "BLACK AGE XII".

The very talented N. Steven Harris, creator of the exciting "Fringe" line of books, will be one of the featured artists at "BLACK AGE XII". Harris has worked for Motown Animation Works, Milestone Media, and many others. These two photos were taken at the first ONXY CON in Atlanta Aug. 2009.

Two Black Age innovators, Eric Battle and Turtel Onli kickin' it at the first ONYX CON in Atlanta this summer. John Jennings of Eyetrauma can be seen coolin' it in the background. Battle will be another guest Artist at "BLACK AGE XII" in Chicago Oct. 9th through the 11th 2009. This is the oldest and original Black Age of Comics Convention. www.ericbattle.com

"BLACK AGE XII" will take place the weekend of Oct. 9th 2009 in the Hyde Park area of Chicago which is the home of President Obama. This 'hood boasts having the University of Chicago, the birthplace of the Atomic Age, the national offices of Operation Push, The Hyde Park Art Center, the Little Black Pearl Center for Art & Design, the personal homes of President Obama and The Impressive Kenwood Community, nice places to eat, book stores, along with being the base of the Black Age movement.

The world's first Black Age of Comics Convention was given at the historic Southside Community Art Center in the the Bronzeville area of Chicago in 1993. It featured Craig Rex Perry, Tim Jackson, Turtel Onli, & Cassandra Washington. Now there are four conventions nationwide.

We were able to briefly visit the "Out of Sequence" exhibition and program at the Krannert Museum in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. It is curated by Damian Duffy and John Jennings and focuses on the impact and works of under represented illustrators and cartoonists. They also created a catalog that features the entire exhibition which is great for teachers, creative professionals, and students.

Onli is leading the students in a meditative appreciation of his characters Malcolm-10 and Sustah-Girl. His students were impressed to find out their instructor is a real artist. John Jennings and Damian Duffy dropped by during this whirlwind visit while the students were checking out the poster montage created by Mshindo, "The Master of the Black Age".

Yaounde' Olu was the winner of our exciting raffle of the Black Panther T Shirt at Afri-ware.

Several serious collectors were on hand to learn about Dreadlocks and other Black Age characters. They were excited to see the range of books available at Afri-ware. Black Age indie products are very collectable because of the subject matter and the fact they are rare. This is a combination that will give them increasing value over time. These collectors came to shop and learn!

At the Afri-ware Bookstore in Oak Park IL "BLACK AGE XI" presented a panel discussion, signings, vending, and a raffle of a Black Panther and Dreadlocks tee shirt. Tim Jackson was set to go and folks loved it. Afri-ware will be offering a DVD of the presentation in the near future.

Nzingah Nommo and Yaounde Olu were having a moment of appreciation. Nzingah is the owner of the store which is over ten years old. She regularly features programs there to explore and promote the positive aspects of Black and African culture to the wider community. Yaounde is a former gallery owner, artist, and pioneer publisher creator of Black Age materials. She gave Turtel Onli his first exhibition in 1971 and co-published a 'zine in 1980 called "PAPERS"

Onli moderated the panel. Here we have Tim Jackson holding up one of Yaounde Olu's publications with Andre Batts of "Dreadlocks" fame outta Detroit checking it out. Folks were amazed to learn about how much has been going on in the Black Age movement since 1980. They promised to spread the word.

Andre, Tim and LaMorris circulated to mix with folks and families who were there. It was all so very positive. This scattered site approach of "BLACK AGE XI" worked well to take us and our products out to the people. No admission charges. No single physical plant to promote. No travel complications. Just the Black Age appearing at a place near you. BAMN!!!!!

This is the main reason why we do it!!!!!!!

The day before "Los Ninos Mesarinas" were with us at the South Side YMCA in Chicago all day. Nino has been rolling with us for a few years now and folks love his work on the incredible "Laundry Detergent Man". His son sold a few drawings of his own too.

This mother brought her son in to meet us since he is very creative. He later explained that he would later hit us up looking for a deal since we were publishers. He felt that meeting us made his efforts that much easier.

LaMorris worked the panel well. He even explained the creation of "Jigaboo Devil!!!!

BLACK AGE FOREVER!!!!!!

It was all a great day in the Black Age.

Oct. 2008: This month long exhibition showcased a wide range of illustrations, posters, and artwork created by many of the great and important artists working in the Black Age.

Muhammed Ali, Pedro Bell, Mishindo, Ashley A. Woods, Christian St. Pierre, Barbara and Rod Jenkins, and Andre Batts along with many others are included in the exhibition.

Dr. Royster, the Director of the African American Cultural Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago, introduced Onli. His lecture focused on the value of the Black Age movement and its need to grow its own independently loyal and active fan base and market share.

Later Dr. Royster offered to explore hosting a national Black Age symposium at UIC in a year or two.

Tim Jackson and others were on hand selling and signing books during the evening of the opening reception.

Of course the talented and prolific Ashley A. Woods was there showcasing her growing line of books and related products. How many indie-books do you read, collect, or give as gifts??

Rhakel represented ONLI STUDIOS distribution experiment the next day at the Southside YMCA. Other vendors there were LaMorris Richmond, Tim Jackson, Nino Mesarina, Andre Batts, and Ashley A. Woods. This way we took the Black Age movement and its products to the people in search of more fans, customers, and sells. Every book we sell is a book the mainstream does not sell. Long Live the Black Age!!!!! Indie forever!

ONLI STUDIOS was on display at the University Park Library's "Crawl into Comix" on July 26th, 2008. This was an opportunity to sell books like Song of Songs, Grafenveer, Galaxia Force, Tales From the Kids, Paka & Shujaa, 5-Shots!!!, NOG IS BACK!!!!, Team BLANGA, Malcolm-10, the Grammar Patrol, and other titles. Creators or companies like Kiss Me Comix, Jason Hunter, Nino Mesarina, David Gruba, and Rene Castellario were there as well.

Ms Kelley Nichols , the Librarian in charge, was a very enthusiatic hostess for the well attended event. That same day the Chicago Tribune Newspaper ran a major story supporting comic books as the "new literature".

Another positive moment for the Black Age movement.

The library purchased a rack full of Black Age comics from ONLI STUDIOS for the folks that come through the library to use its resources.

The AZIZI Books store 134 Lincoln Mall in Matteson Illinois also has a spinning rack dedicated to Black Age products.

Afri-Ware at 266 West Lake Street in Oak Park Illinois features a similar rack as well. We encourage your support of these stores along with the Black Age of Comics Movement.

Graphic novels, comic books, and ash cans are moving briskly at the two pilot stores in Chicago that agreed to test selling Black Age products. The plan is to keep growing this network of stores and vendors who are committed to bring the best of the Black Age of Comics to a market that usually does not frequent a traditional comic book store.

2009 will be the 30th anniversary of the debut of "NOG: The Protector of the Pyramides" by Turtel Onli. 1979 to 2009

It was first introduced as a cartoon strip in the Chicago Defender newspaper July 1979 and later collected and expanded into a comic book in 1981. NOG opened the door to the Black Age of Comics in introducing a character that was based on a "Black" planet while being created with design elements derived from Nubian, West African, and various other African concepts. At ECBACC 2006 founder Yumi Odom stated the he was very inspired about the prospect of the Black Age being a serious movement after he found a copy of "NOG: The Protector of the Pyramides".

The story "NOG IS BACK!!!" is in the graphic novel anthology "Team BLANGA" from ONLI STUDIOS via www.comixpress.com along with an oringinal soundtrack CD from Hardy Headz called "Blanga Beatz".

ONLI STUDIOS is planning to produce an anniversary edition of the NOG saga. Tentatively it is named, "NOG: The War For Planet NUBA".

Currently Onli Studios is experimenting with developing a distributorship of Black Age products that will be based in the Chicagoland market. Currently two very popular Afrocentric bookstores have accepted a free standing spinning rack exclusively featuring Black Age products. One is the Afrocentric Bookstore in the Bronzeville area at 47th and King Drive. The other is Afri-Ware in Oak Park Illinois at 266 West Lake Street. This is a serious step toward getting more products in the hands of Blackuns everywhere. Oh......Blackuns are the fans of Black Age products. Chicagoland has a market potential of thousands of Blackuns of all ages, cultures, and educational levels.

"BLACK AGE X": The 10th Black Age of Comics Convention was a success.

It featured two guests artists in Jamal Igle, of DC and Image fame along with Craig REX Perry of "The Proud Family and "Hip Hop Heaven" fame. For REX it was a homecoming in that he is native to Chicago and was one to the organizers of the first Black Age of Comics Convention in 1993. The coup was that the legendary, reclusive Pedro Bell of P-Funk fame was in the house too. Alisa Williams was a fantastic Event Manager.

The vendors featured the likes of Urban Style from Detroit, Christian N. St. Pierre, BLAM COMIX, Hall Boy Productions from Cinncinati, with Onli Studios, Urban Christian Ministries / "The Guardians", Kiss Me Comix from Chicago. There will be many updates about it all but we just wanted to set the communication in flow. It was great, positive, well attended, with folks wanting more.

We at Onli Studios want to thank everyone who has participated in any Black Age event over the decades.

Plans are under way for "BLACK AGE XI" which will feature an exhibition and reception Oct. 10th 2008 at the University of Illinois' Chicago Campus African American Cultural Center's Gallery featuring "The Blacker the Hero" group exhibition to open up the event.

This year the Tenth Annual Black Age of Comics Convention will be held in Chicago at the Kenwood Academy High School at 5015 South Blackstone. Located in the culturally diverse Hyde Park/Kenwood Community which boasts the likes of Barack Obama, the University of Chicago, the Smart Museum, The DuSable Museum of African American History, The Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center, the Hyde Park Art Center, the Blackstone Library, and Pedro Bell of P-Funk fame as its residents. This community is also the birthplace of the Black Age of Comics.

Moving the convention to Kenwood Academy gives the convention a larger physical plant with good parking, nearby lodging, outstanding restaurants, scenic lakefront, and easy public transportation.

This event is produced by Onli Studios with support from the Graphic Novel and Anime-Manga Clubs of Kenwood Academy.

The month of May 2007 saw an explosion in

Black Age celebrations and expressions.

Professor William Foster organized an exhibition at the Museum of Cartoon and Comic Art in New York. John Jennings and Damian Duffy's exhibition OH: Other Heroes at Jackson State University in Mississippi is being extended through the summer. In Philadelphia PASCEP is presenting the 6th East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention along with the 2nd Annual Glyph Awards Program. In Chicago Turtel Onli was a presenter at the Thurgood Marshall Public Library with the Say It Loud! Youth Reading Advocacy organization and gave away autographed copies of Educate or Die and Cassandra Washington's Grammar Patrol. Plus The UVC, Urban Voice in Comics , Magazine launched its number two issue which featured the likes of Kyle Baker and Ashley A. Woods outstanding works.

CALL FOR ENTRIES:
We are starting out early for the biggest Black Age event yet. Artists of all ages are being asked to contribute original art for next year's themed exhibition. The details are as follows.

Title: THE BLACKER THE HERO

When: Oct. 2007
Concept: Visual interpretations of Black Age characters that were created by artists or writers of African descent. Sorry, but no Black Panther, Storm, Blade, Black Lightning, or Luke Cage. You can not draw your own character. These must be previously published characters. No unpublished characters will be accepted. You may want to use the online site called the Museum of Black Super Heroes or the Milestone Media site as a resource.

Process: This is an open show with no jury on a first come, first shown basis. However pornography and insulting bad taste will not be permitted. Should you decide to participate in this amazing gallery show make sure you title the work with the correctly spelled name of the character along with its copyright or trademark information properly indicated. You must include the name of the character's creator and the title of the book it was featured in along with this information. We will create lables based on this information. This is a show of original illustrations in all mediums.

Prizes: Awards will be given out to artists for technique, style, and impact. The opening to the exhibition will be web cast and made available on DVD.

Sizes: No work should be smaller than 11" X 18" nor larger than 30" X 40". All work should come in suitible for gallery hanging. Simple frames under plexiglass or images dry mounted to foam core with eyelets will do.

Yumy Odom, the founder of the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention presenting Turtel Onli with a 2006 Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement and dubbing him "The Father of the Black Age of Comics." Unfortunately the other Pioneer Award recipient, Tony Tallarico could not make it.

Rich Watson is the creator of the Glyph Awards saluting excellence
and creativity in the Black Age of Comics.
Carla will create a Black Age of Comics quilt to be sold as a fundraiser at next year's ECBACC. We will be fighting over that quilt!

For the Chicago Black Age of Comics Convention Jennifer Hitt and Alanni Duenas created our logo tag and interpretations of it as three murals and T-shirts. Pictured wearing the Black Age logo Tees are Ashley Woods, Onli, and Jenn Hitt. This was a collector’s dream come true.

The 9th Annual Black Age of Comics Convention
Presented by Onli Studios Feb. 17th to the 19th at the South Side Community Art Center of Chicago.

Onli Studios produced its 9th Annual Black Age of Comics Convention. Its opening reception attracted over 500 fans and supporters. The opening featured the “Sistahs on Narcissa” panel discussion of the graphic novel of the same name by Black Age great, Lance Tooks. This was a well received and attended feature. Brothas got a lesson that night. This night was featured on the Bronzeville Arts District Trolley Tour.

After seeing more traditional forms of Black fine art, on the tour many people were pleasantly impressed to see the Black Age of Comics Gallery exhibition. This show featured mounted or framed works from Milestone Media,Kiss Me Comix, Seitu Haden, Tim Jackson, John McClellan, Yaounde’ Olu, Pedro Bell, Eugene Mitchell, and Turtel Onli. It included a special section of works and biographies of African American cartoonists and illustrators whose works were carried or syndicated in the Black Press prior to 1965. Local and nationally affiliated press representatives and arts critics were feverishly trying to interview the artists on hand and to intellectually process the exhibition.

Our traffic flow included people of all ages, races, and income-educational levels. The mood was encouraging and wonderfully positive throughout the entire convention which featured vendors, workshops, net working, collecting, and celebration. Black Age collectors were making their presence felt by buying a variety of products form everyone. Among the vendors were LaMorris Richmond, Ernst Posey, Nino Mesarina, Kiss Me Comix, Uniphysics, Ken Ray, Yaounde’ Olu, Billy L. Henderson, and Turtel Onli.

Ashley Woods was the featured hostess. She was exciting while auctioning off the Static Shock books donated by Dwayne McDuffie.

Despite sub zero weather numerous fans flowed through the convention during the three day celebration. Coincidentally the Chicago Association of African American Photographers and the Chicago After School Matters Program were having their regularly scheduled events at the Art center while we were convening. This added more love and energy to the entire weekend.

In closing the “Sistahs On Narcissa” wants to meet Lance Tooks at some point. They have an assortment of insights and questions for him. We are currently in the process of editing a DVD on it. Each vendor and exhibitor enthusiastically stated they would participate in next year’s convention. Mile, Faheem, Howard, and Diane of the South Side Community Art Center were positive, supportive, gracious, and creative. We could not do this without them and their unique skills. They would like to have us back for another year. Now we are laying plans for next years 10th Annual Black Age of Comics Convention. The first one was given 15 years ago. A lot has happened since the term was coined. “The Black Age of Comics” refers to materials created or derived from the Black or African experience. We are living and creating in the Black Age. Our quest for more market share continues.

John Jennings, the creator of "Urban Kreep" and www.EyeTrauma.net and Prof. Bill Foster, who wrote "Looking For A Face Like Mine" were among the many Black Age living treasures available at ECBACC this year. Another reason to attend the Black Age of Comics Convention in Chicago or the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention in Philadelphia. They are two very important events in this most crucial of visual and literary arts movements.
Eric Battle and Jerry Craft having a positive exchange during ECBACC. Eric is a very talented mainstream illustrator for the likes of Milestone Media, DC and Marvel to name a few while Jerry is the creator of the syndicated "Mama's Boyz....as American as Sweet Potato Pie" comic strip.
Here we have Sam Joyner, a recipient of the Pioneer's Award in 2005 at ECBACC talking with the new hot Black Age Artist , Jamal Igle, who draws DC's "Firestorm" among other things. This was a meeting of great talents and minds sharing in creativity and excellence.
Bro.G, the creator of "MEMNON" was on hand with his title, input, and resourcefulness at ECBACC. He is a longtime Black Age master of creativity, writing and research.

This Black Age tag was created by Reggie. She is a talented student at the Kenwood Academy High School in Chicago and works part time at the Children's Museum of Chicago. This tag and a few other versions were available at the convention as T-Shirts.

She writes, "Working for someone is great, even when you are doing your own art-work for them. Knowing that they are not wanting it because it looks cool but because they believe in you and know you are talented.

"Da Black Age" was the first tag that I have ever done for someone and I 'm glad that it went to Mr. Onli. I feel very good that I was successful with this piece. It was totally awesome to work with Mr. Onli and to work with him in the future."

Milestone landed!!!! You couldn't find them at most stores. You couldn't buy them in most places. But due to the generousity of Dwayne McDuffie we offered a few Static-Shock graphic novels and comic books as raffle prizes to our lucky guests. Milestone has been a supporter of the Black Age of Comics Convention from the start. McDuffie is the most prolific writer/producer in the Black Age and sometimes his subtle brilliance is overlooked. With titles like Rebirth of the Cool or Souls of Cyber Folks his cultural nuances speak loudly and intelligently.

It presents original photos, images, poems, and other literary expressions created by some seriouly raw students. This is a high school program under the direction of Ben Jaffe. 9th Annual Black Age of Comics Convention updates: The exhibition of Tim Jackson's provacative editorial cartoons and his research on African American illustrators before 1968 were open to the public on Feb. 10th instead of the 1st as previously planned.

Everything else was as follows:

WHERE: The historic South Side Community Art Center at 3831 South Michigan Ave. Chicago IL 60653. Situated in the heart of the Bronzeville section of the city.

WHEN: Gallery exhibition from Feb. 10th until Feb. 28th. Reception on Feb. 17th. Free Admission for the reception. 4pm until 9pm. It featured the panel discussion of Sistahs on "NARCISSA",which was created by that Black Age great, Lance Tooks. The panel convened at 7pm the evening of the opening reception.

Feb. 18th and 19th will be the actual convention dates.
Times: 11am until 4pm both days.
Admission $2.00 for students and $5.00 for adults.
Events on both days: Exhibitions, vendors, publishers, seminars, raffles, collecting, networking, interviews, and college recruitment.

Feb. 17th to the 19th. 2006 Free reception 5pm unitl 10pm on Friday the 17th. Featuring Tim Jackson's exhibition on Black cartoonists and editorial comics, student art, professional art, vending, and the Sistahs' panel on the graphic novel ,"NARCISSA", by that Black Age great, Lance Tooks. Also there will be a special trolley bus tour of the historic Bronzeville community.

Feb. 18th and 19th will feature vending, exhibitions, animation screenings, raffles,and professional networking. The days of Feb. 18th and the 19th have an admission price of $2.00 for students and $5.00 for adults. Times: 11am until 4pm for both days. This is a collectors dream come true. Most Black Age titles are rare due to low press runs and limited outlets. The future collectors' market for original Black Age products is going to be so lucrative. YEOW!!

Graphic novels have come a long way since being introduced to the USA market by the French in the late '70s. With the explosion of the square bond black and white Manga books leading the way it appears the future growth in this industry may be drawing the Black market closer to the graphic novel. Plus women, and all folks of color.

On the evening of our opening reception, at 7pm,on Feb. 17th, we will have several sistahs respond to the innovative graphic novel, "Narcissa", created by that Black Age great, Lance Tooks. They are arts supporters, educators,and avid readers of traditional novels. Their insights, appraisals, suggestions, and appreciations of the title and the graphic novel should be entertaining and educational for all of the attendees. Admission is free for this panel and reception.
